New blog

If you want to keep up with me

Go to my new blog....

http://blog.marydavisphotography.com/

this is the old blog!

Getting back on the Blog Wagon....

Wow, it has been forever since I have had actually had a minute to sit and write in here :{

That is terrible ... I have to apologize... but at least this lack of keeping up with my blog schedule means I have been swamped with sessions, projects & all new things for my business. Initially, I wanted to take a week off from blogging and it looks as though that was a very looong week a two month long week to be exact. Isn't it crazy how time flies….Especially, when you are doing so many awesome & inspiring sessions.

I feel like I have grown so much in these last two years and definitely since I started my business back in 2008... If it wasn't for the fear of failing I would have started back in 2002 when I graduated high school. Omg! It has almost been a decade since Eric & I graduated. Where has all that time gone?
Anywho…..I went straight into a full time job, bought a house & got married all within two years...I guess I figured it would be better to have a full time nine to five just in case but I so look back on all those years wishing I had gone for it then.... I suppose it wouldn't have mattered my business is in a great place right now & I know it will only continue to get better. Focus is key especially when we are talking living out your dreams.

 I am totally scatter brained... back to the reason for this post………
   I initially thought I would take a week off so I did….. and then that week grew into two months... I wanted to have a new blog up so thought it was a bit pointless to keep writing in my old blog. Well needless to say I have yet to be finished with the new blog and it is still needing a bit of love before it can be shared so here I am again ... in this old... tired... sad little blog.
Eh what can you do? I have so many sessions to catch up on ...so that is the plan to post everything that I have been working on for the last two months! It might be a bit much but hopefully I can get everyone's sessions up before Christmas. I think I can…I think I can….  I am just in awe at the love I have received from all my amazing clients you guys are so sweet & you really know how to make a girl feel special! When you have a vision & you see it come to life ...it is the most incredible feeling…. not sure I can put it into words.

 I just want to say thank you to each & every one of my clients for walking through briar infested fields, laying on the cold pavement...... to get just the right shot, jumping a few times just so I catch the right angle, getting bitten by bugs and or rained on....and..... all the other fun and crazy wild stuff you all were so happy to do....all in the sake of art!

You guys are the reason I can dream, create, & capture all these magical images.
So thank you! I am so thankful for each & every day that I get to live out my dreams!
 XOXOXO

Keep your eyes peeled because over the nest few weeks... or months lmao...I will be filling the blog with a mountain of sessions from the last two months....
below is just a few completed sessions soon to be gracing the Blog!

   Don't you want yourself on a custom DVD like these? Um yes, you know you do! :"}

The hardest choice ever? | why does it have to be so hard?

Well..... this took me longer to create than I care to share with everyone :"}
 I was trying to give one of my sweetest clients some personalized business cards so that they can share their experience by sharing a sweet picture of their bundle of joy with friends and family.  I don't know about every other photographer out there but I have the hardest time picking out marketing materials.Or anything having to do with my business...I want it to be perfect.  I end up creating like seven different versions only to end up going with the first creation I made.  I have to be the most indecisive person ever right?!? Why is this the hardest choice ever for me? I mean really why is it so hard for me? I am pretty sure buying our first home was an easier decision for me. I guess... I want to make sure I have some cute, fun, business cards to incorporate with my brand.
I don't know but ANYWHO..... :"}

 So what does everyone think about these?!? Be honest......I definitely love the change in logo colors for this card and how about that adorable sweetie pie?!? She just makes this card sooo perfect!
Sweet Madison... this cards for you!

Wednesday

World within a world,Reflections & Twenty Things I Love...

I love photographs of reflections...I know that’s sound crazy to some people... huh? What I mean is do you ever catch yourself looking in your rear view mirror and then when you see yourself...you almost don't realize it's you...because it's in an instant ....and it may or may not resemble the way you feel like you look?

Reflections can tell the truth in ways people can't…much like a photograph can. Combined together and you have pure awesomeness.
Reflections aren't always what you envision. They are a world within a world. They seem to captivate in the same way brightly colored lights or amazing music can. There is a truth within reflections… and isn’t that what we are all searching for? Truth....

Here's an Ode to reflections… you just never know what they can reveal.
 Enjoy!

 A photograph can be more telling than an autobiography.
That is the beauty of photography.

It's not about the Money.....

It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.

Buddha

I hope everyone had a good weekend. I did! I spent most of my time rearranging my office and getting some portraits on the walls. I still have a ton of books, notebooks and sketchbooks to sort and organize. I like to compile ideas, favorite poses, & learning materials for my business within all these sketchbooks & notebooks....so needless to say I have a ton of them floating around. Thanks to my husband my desk now faces our double windows towards the front of the house ....so I can see the world while I work. I think it’s time I get a few things off my chest and address a few issues that I struggle to understand.

While I was visiting with my parents on Sunday, my very wealthy uncle had a few things on his mind apparently. Mainly, that he felt I needed to get a job? Get a job? I have a job? The audacity! I work harder than he ever did… working for a factory!  Running a business is... having a fulltime job 24/7 you are never off. Your mind is never at rest and you are never finished. I get up every morning and work my butt off. What does he know?!? Right? After telling him repeatedly ...I own my own business and I am actually doing very well for myself... considering my business is only about three and half years old. He shook his head with disgust and asked my husband, “well maybe it's time you get a second job” Are you kidding me right now? I had to seriously breathe through this one...like in yoga when the pain is too much….. are you serious? Really? You have some nerve?!? Our personal life is none of your concern…..I was thinking all of those things …. But I kept it all to myself. Instead of starting what would have been a huge family argument I simply said, again, I have a job… I own my own Photography business. As in I have real equipment, a website, business cards, & yes real clients. That seem to keep him quite but he just doesn’t get it!

Why is it that my parent’s generation thinks… that if you don't punch a clock or you don’t have a nine to five that you aren't successful? That you aren’t making money? That you are lazy?

Lazy?...Lazy?!? REALLY?!?

Do they have any idea what it takes to be self made? To run your own company? Nooooooo!

No, they have no idea how hard it is to be self made...to run your own company & to want to build something of your own. You have to be self motivated & have aspirations.

They have the mentality that if you work for a company all your life that, the company will take care of you and you will be successful and not have to worry about anything. When really you are like a sheep and the only one that is successful is the company that you are killing yourself for. Why do they think this? Has the last 15 years not disproven this theory?

I understand the concept but…..it's not about the money .... I by no means, want to be on a hamster wheel my entire life only to finally retire when I am 65 years old or older and realize I was chasing nothing, because there is nothing left for me. The dream I had worked so hard for only made the company richer. To Realize I worked my entire youth away, missed moments I will never get back missed making memories and enjoying the short time we have on earth ….and for what? For money? Money means nothing. In the grand scheme of things money keeps you from truly being free, keeps you from really living life. When you die you can't take it with you. wouldn't you much rather be able to say I lived a good life and I have so many amazing memories instead of I worked my entire life doing something I wasn’t passionate about and now I am too tired to make amazing memories, too tired to pursue my passion…..This is the very reason I do what I do. I don't do what I do for the money...I am a photographer because it is what I love to do…. I am passionate about life & the way people love & grow. I am a photographer because I get to capture someone’s soul and give them a living memory of a time they can't get back. I am a photographer because if I were anything else it would smother me inside...I just have to let the world see what it is that I see the way that I see it.

If you are doing something for the money... then you just don't get it.
